Guide to the optimization of production with power skiving

settembre 28, 2021
Surely one of the Achilles' heels of business is productivity and the question of every entrepreneur is how to optimize it at best?

Often in this period we have experienced intense delays due to the lack of raw materials but not only, also the availability of suppliers for external processing. Of course, we understand the situation of subcontracting very well because it has often happened to us too that we have to speed up certain processes to prevent customers from stopping the assembly line. But what to do when the phone call arrives from the correspondent asking us to do what we can otherwise he has to send the employees on vacation? First of all we reassure him and then we make an internal strategy to optimize production. One scenario could be to speed up the work where possible or to do several phases together as in the case of skiving.

Another interesting scenario that I would like to share with you is linked to the automotive logic in which there is a target price and a maximum production time to be reached for the realization of a component. The context is that of a large German car manufacturer with which we are in pre-series to achieve a good value for money by optimizing the production time to the maximum. In this case, thanks to skiving we have managed to decrease the price and the production weeks, increasing the quality.

What are the advantages of power skiving?

As you will have understood, using this process has more advantages than disadvantages, despite the fact that its advantages have been known for a century, it has only been used for just over 40 years. This is because the technological evolution both on the machine side and on the tool side has had a strong acceleration.

Here are all the advantages that push us to offer skiving to our customers whenever the opportunity arises.

  1. Higher quality, because with a single socket it is possible to carry out several phases and therefore the risk of error is considerably reduced;
  2. Increased productivity, because machining times are accelerated by replacing the turning and toothing phases. In addition to this, labor costs for any manual loader machines are also eliminated;
  3. Savings on logistics, because the pieces do not have to be moved from one department to another.
Ultimately, in G.S.I. we have seen a substantial increase in productivity with an equally increase in customer satisfaction. If you have a project to be optimized, we can make a technical assessment to offer you the most economically and qualitatively sustainable solutions for your product.
