Today I would like to pause our usual technical article and talk more about this year's changes for our industry. By now at the close of 2022, many projects for '23 are already in the pipeline, many others in an embryonic stage, but which will certainly radically change the way we work.

Reflection from Europe

We have clear data from the German world: companies need specialized suppliers, because they are struggling to find this type of manpower, despite the growing increase in the price of energy. Surely, this is a problem that then also affects our companies, in fact we realized that it was necessary to adequately train all personnel. This has led GSI to create a knowledge base with videos and support material for newcomers as well as junior resources. The problem with medium-sized companies like GSI is the costs of this specialization process. Going outsourced for some processes today is starting to become increasingly unsustainable, because it means making offers that are out of the market both in terms of costs and timing. By keeping the manufacturing part of the machining in-house, both prices and lead times are improved. However, this requires greater specialization both in terms of personnel and machinery.

How to open 2023 in the best way

First of all, 2023 will start for us with a gem: our brand new Studer S33 with a 1000 mm table, the internal and external grinding machine with 15Kw spindle, which we found under the Christmas tree. This will allow us to be totally autonomous in managing the entire mechanical processing cycle of the gear. With the skills acquired, our focus will move from being only producers but above all consultants to carry out new projects alongside our customers.
